Guide to Listing Yourself in Twitter Directories
You certainly already know that Twitter is a powerful tool which you should be using to promote your business. But do you know how people find you on Twitter? Although there are many ways to link to your Twitter account, one of the top ways to generate new followers on the site is to list yourself in Twitter directories. The important thing is to use the right directories and to be sure to list yourself properly so that you get the right followers.
Best Twitter Directories
There are more than one dozen Twitter directories out there. You can list yourself on all of them to gain followers but these are the ones that are most important to be included on:
- Just Tweet It. People can search for Twitter users through categories and sub-categories on this site. For example, green businesses might be found through the “green living” category or through the sub-category of “sustainable living”.
- Twellow. This site calls itself the “Yellow Pages of Twitter”.
- WeFollow. This directory was only launched a few months ago but it’s rapidly become a Top Twitter Directory because of the way it makes use of follow tags as well as the way that it ranks users by number of followers.
- Twitter LinkUp. This directory allows you to expand on your Twitter profile so people with relevant interests can easily find you.
- Twibs. This directory is specifically for businesses so it’s an important one to include yourself on.
- Twibes. Similar to a Twitter directory, this is a site for Twitter groups. Join groups here or create your own group.
Tips for Your Twitter Directory Listing
Although the information that you can enter varies by directory, these tips apply to most of them:
- Choose the correct category. List yourself in the categories that most closely fit the followers that you’re trying to attract. For example, a green blogger may want to be listed in a green category to get green-minded followers rather than in a blogging category where the only people following will be other bloggers.
- Think “keywords” when adding tags. Many directories let you include tags. These should be similar to the keywords you use when optimizing your site.
- Use a tagline. Your business should have a slogan and it should be included on these sites whenever possible.
- Include links to your website. If allowed, don’t just send people to your Twitter account but link them to your other sites / blogs as well.
- Always look for advanced options. Check each site to see if it allows you any advanced options and make use of them.
It doesn’t take long to list yourself in these directories and it can add a big boost to your activity on Twitter!
