Is Your Site Trustworthy? March 16, 2009

Do Customers Trust Your Website?

There are so many different things to take into consideration when creating a website that it can be easy to just go through handshakethe motions of getting your content up and your links built. However, it’s crucial that you always keep trying to return to your site with fresh eyes if you want it to be a successful website. You need to look at your website as though you’re a customer who is coming to the site for the first time. And as you do that, one of the most important questions that you can ask yourself is, “would I trust this website”?

When customers come to your website, they want to see a site that looks professional and trustworthy. They want to see a website that they believe will provide them with accurate information about all of the things that they want to know including information about your products and services, who you are and how to contact you to get additional details about anything that they continue to have questions about. If a customer looks at your website and doesn’t easily see that information, the customer won’t trust your website.

The majority of people who come to a website will look at it for only a brief second before they make a judgment about whether or not it’s a trustworthy site. If your customers don’t trust your website when they first look at it then they’re going to rapidly click away. They’ll head to a website on the same topic that looks more credible and that they can trust more. And when they do that, you’ll lose traffic and you’ll lose money.

Take a close look at your website and make sure that it meets the standards of a trustworthy site. Make sure that you don’t have any typos, overwhelming advertisements or irrelevant images on the site. Make sure that your web design is easy to look at and easy to navigate. Definitely make sure that all of the information on the site is up to date and accurate and that all of your links work. If you do that, you’ll solidify the credibility of your website and make it so that your customers trust you enough to spend time there.
